Geelong Elite

Our Geelong Elite Competitive Program's accomodate for athlete's 5yrs to adults and beginner to advanced skill levels. We offer the following two programs;

 

Prep Program

Our Prep program is one of Cheer Geelong’s competitive Programs. As the name suggests the program is designed to ‘prepare’ athletes and families for the world of Competitive Cheer & Dance with less commitment, and more guidance throughout the year than the Allstar Program. The Prep Program is a great way to ease into the competitive stream with the following benefits;

Cheer

  • Training 1 night per week & approx. 2 Hours per week
  • Monthly Workshops with head coaches at our Gym
  • Compete within Melbourne & Geelong Only
  • Option of Hire for Competition Uniform
  • Train in our Fully Equipped Gym in Geelong
  • Compete in our Geelong Elite Competition Dress

Hip Hop

  • Training .5 hours per week.
  • Compete within Melbourne & Geelong Only
  • Affordable Costume & Music Fee
  • Train in our Mirrored Studio in Geelong on a Harlequin Dance Floor

 

This program will not be offered to athletes above 14yrs and is offered at novice / level 1 only.

 

Allstar Program

Our All-star Program is for those who live, eat, sleep & breathe cheer / dance, and who want to take it to the next level, to compete against the best! Athletes in the All-Star program will have a strict attendance and commitment policy. Athletes must be 7 years + to be part of the Allstar Program. Here’s what you should know about the program;

Cheer

  • Minimum Training 2 nights per week & 3-4 Hours per week
  • Train in our Fully Equipped Gym in Geelong
  • Compete in our Geelong Elite Competition Dress
  • Train with a dedicated team
  • Options of trying out for additional extras as listed below

 

Dance

  • Compulsory 45minute technique class per week.
  • 45minute training sessions per genre
  • Costume & Music Fee
  • Train in our Mirrored Studio in Geelong on a Harlequin Dance Floor
  • Compete in Pom, Hip Hop and or Lyrical
  • Options of trying out for additional extras as listed below

 

 

 

Team Selection

Athletes will be placed in teams based on programs, location, age, & ability. Those who would like to increase levels faster, have the option of taking private lessons to gain skills. On occasion, when a team is not full or needs one or two extra athletes to make full stunt groups, CG coaches may choose an athlete with below level tumbles in order to fill the team. This athlete would need to show strength in Jumps, Stunts & Dance. Sometimes whilst an athlete may be able to physically do the level appropriate tumble skills, we also consider their mental ability (motivation, work ethic, determination), as well as the previous experience and commitment of the athlete when placing them in teams. Remember that kids reach this motivation and maturity at different stages, and it is important for us to place athletes in teams that they will feel comfortable in, rather than have them pushing for higher levels. Cheer Geelong will do our best to place athletes appropriately and in a level that will best progress them.

 

We aim to find a team for all in our prep program, however, this is based on having the required numbers for each age group. We encourage athletes to give it a go, the Prep Cheer Tryout is fun & relaxed but is a chance for us to look at possible stunt groups and appropriate teams. Should there not be a level 1 team suitable in the Allstar program, athletes will be placed in the prep program.

 

Tryout process

Our 2017 teams are now set and therefore new athletes will be given a private tryout time. This may be in a private session with a coach or as a trial with one of our current teams. The tryout will involve showcasing current skills, fitness and experience in order for us to make the best decision possible on teams.

 

Age Groups

Cheer Geelong follows the USASF Cheerleading age groups for cheer and dance. For the development and success of the club and individual athletes, we aim to keep athletes in the youngest age group possible, however when/if we feel necessary, we will put athletes in older age groups if there isn’t an appropriate team for them in their most suitable age group / level. Many athletes think that being up an age group is of benefit to them, however we try to remind them that you wouldn’t want to race against the U15’s when you were only 8, as they would have an unfair advantage. We need to consider the age of the teams we compete against, rather than the idea of girls wanting to train with ‘the big girls!’.

Classes

 

Cheer 

Competitive Cheer combines Stunting, Tumbling, Jumps & Dance all in one visually exciting and choreographed routine. Within the required training hours athletes have dedicated time to both learning routines, and working individual skills. 

Pom

Competitive Pom is a Jazz based dance style incorporating arm motions, flexibility, turns, leaps & lifts. The pom scoresheet puts a focus on synchronization, visual effects, formations and performance. Pom routines are choreographed to fast paced, energetic music.

Hip Hop

Competitive hip-hop training consists of learning the latest popular style of Hip Hop choreography, tricks/ lifts, fitness and strength. Our Hip Hop teams learn energetic and unique routines, and wear street style costumes to compete in throughout the year.

Lyrical

Lyrical is a modern style of dance, where dancers aim to tell a story through their movement. Lyrical routines often incorporate leaps, kicks, turns, flexibility, and lifts. The scoresheet for Lyrical encourages strong dance technique, fluid movement & performance.
